Bharti Airtel also implemented issuance of SIM cards through Aadhar-based e-KYC as per government regulation in Delhi NCR. This will be extended to other location in upcoming days. As this will benefit customers in the immediate issuance of SIM cards and immediate verification process for telecom providers.

At the point of sale, customers will now be verified with iris and fingerprint scan to enable faster access. Devices will be connected to UIDAI database to match biometrics data and with this customer will be provided with instant activation with their connection with their names. It will reduce problems in issuance and manipulation of identity proofs.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Ajai Puri, Director – Operations (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel said, “Aadhaar based e-KYC for a mobile connection is a milestone for the telecom industry and will enhance customer experience through faster on boarding. A customer can now walk into an Airtel store and walk out with an active mobile connection in a matter of few minutes. The solution also complements the Government’s Digital India vision and will add to Airtel’s green initiatives.”

Airtel said the solution which is currently live at its Delhi NCR stores – would be available at company-operated stores across the country over the next few days.

Similarly Vodafone has already partnered with Department of Telecom to pilot test of Aadhar based e-KYC solutions in two circles.
