Mobile Connectivity has Reached More than 6 Lakh Villages in India

All the villages are being connected to mobile networks by telecommunications companies and governments through USOFUM- Universal Service Obligation Fund. There are now over 6lakish villages in India which have a cell phone connection. But, even though there are 27831 villages in the country without mobile networks, a lot of work still needs to be done. BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has been granted funding from the United States Of America Fund to establish cellular networks in these villages.

The government stated that there were approximately 6,00,000 16 000 300 villages with a mobile connection in the country, amounting to 44 thousand 131 villages. Minister for Communications and Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said in the Lok Sabha that the government has taken a number of initiatives to improve Internet connectivity in the country.

India has seen the fastest rollout of 5G services in the world with 3.99 lakhs Base Trans-receivers Station, BTS deployed across around 738 districts. He said BTS has increased to 24.42 million in March 2014 from 6.49 million the previous month. As of March 2023, there were 88.22 million internet users compared to 25.15 million in March 2014. The cost of data has reduced drastically from 269 rupees per GB in March 2014 to 9 rupees 94 paise per GB in March this year.
