Reliance Jio Average Download Speed 18Mbps in December, Faster Than Airtel, Vodafone: TRAI

Back in October last year, TRAI reported that Reliance Jio is the slowest 4G network in India with an average download speed of 6.2Mbps. However, the operator quickly bashed out all these allegations saying that their network is not the slowest one.

Supporting the TRAI reports were the Jio 4G users who faced several speed issues after the network gone live to the general public. But, Jio is now topping the chart with an average download speed number of 9.9Mbps, which is followed by Airtel with 8.1Mbps and Vodafone with 7.5Mbps according to TRAI speed test reports till December 2016.

But sadly, the upload speeds remain the same at 2.6Mbps of Jio standing at the second position. Surprisingly, Norway-based Telenor tops the list with an average upload speed of 2.8Mbps. In the third place, we have Airtel providing 2.2Mbps upload speeds
Reliance Jio 4G network’s average download reached 18.16 megabits per second (Mbps) in December 2016, its highest since launch of its commercial 4G services in September, as per Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data.

The monthly average mobile data speed published by TRAI showed that the Reliance Jio download speed was 5.85Mbps in November 2016, which was lower than peak speed of 7.26Mbps in September.
Among other networks, Vodafone download speed increased to 6.7Mbps in December from 4.9Mbps in November. Idea network showed average download speed of 5.03Mbps, Bharti Airtel’s 4.68Mbps, BSNL’s 3.42Mbps, Aircel’s 3Mbps and Reliance Communications’ 2.6Mbps in December.

In November, download speed on Airtel network was 5.93Mbps followed by Jio at 5.85Mbps, Vodafone 4.9Mbps, Idea 4.36Mbps, BSNL 3.54Mbps, Aircel 3Mbps and RCom 2.3Mbps.

TRAI collects and computes speed of mobile data from subscribers across the country with the help of MySpeed application on real time basis. The data is collected from several speed test reports conducted in the TRAI mobile app. So, no possibility of false data.

In separate news, Reliance Jio, which launched its much awaited 4G services last year, was the most searched keyword by mobile users, way ahead of star cricketer Virat Kohli and Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, according to 2016 mobile trend released by Alibaba group firm UC News.

This news will come as a blessing for Reliance Jio as the company is severely criticized for its data speeds. Jio is still offering free 4G services under their ‘New Year Offer’, until March 2017, but the daily data limit has been reduced to 1GB from the previous 4GB. And we are expecting the true 4G speeds in coming months.
