State-owned telecom firm MTNL announced two new promotional plans for Mumbai. As the plans are offered on a promotional basis, they will be valid only for 90 days. After the 90-day period, the company will either remove the plans or modify them as per the market scenario.

Under the new Rs. 299 broadband plan, MTNL is offering download speed of 4 Mbps up to 10GB and 2 Mbps beyond the 10GB usage. The Rs. 399 scheme also offer the same perks of 4 Mbps speeds up to 10GB and 2 Mbps till 15GB.

Post the 15GB data, the download speed in both the plan will be reduced to 1 Mbps. Also, do make a note that both these plans are valid only for new broadband customers looking to join under the MTNL broadband. Under the Rs. 299 broadband plan, users can choose their landline calling plan. However, under the Rs. 399 plan, users don’t have the option to choose a calling plan, and all the users will be charged pulse charges of Rs. 1 per minute.

The telecom is also looking to convert its fixed line users into broadband subscribers. At present, only 34 percent of its fixed line customers are also its broadband subscribers.

“In the next 1.5 years, we should gun for 50 percent of landline customer base becoming broadband enabled customers for us…and that should be driving force for us,” MTNL Chairman and Managing Director P K Purwar told PTI.
