Apple launches iPhone X, also unveils iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Watch upgrade

Apple lived up to the hype it generated on the 10th anniversary of the iPhone on Tuesday at its Steve Jobs Theatre by unveiling three flagship phones: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

The two new iPhones weren’t the only highlight of the big September event at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park campus. The iPhone X (Ten) was also announced by the company. Of course, the one big question when the new iPhone launches is around pricing, and when they will be made available. For India users, the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus will be launch one of the quickest one ever in the market.

The India sale kicks off along with China and the US. Apple iPhone X won’t be coming before November 3, which is when the phone officially hits the stores. The 64GB storage version is priced at Rs 89,000 in India and the 256GB version will cost Rs 102,000. So yes, you will be paying just over a lakh if you want the high-end version of iPhone X. iPhone X comes with the edge-to-edge 5.8-inch OLED display, all glass design, dual rear cameras, Face ID.

As it was rumoured for a long time, the iPhone X ditches the Touch ID, in favour of the new feature called Face ID, which unlocks the device using your phone. Coming to the hardware, it uses the same Apple A11 Bionic chipset, and said to have 3GB of RAM.

The Apple iPhone X comes with a power button at the right, which can now be used to fire up Siri or Apple Pay for payments, etc. The anniversary edition also comes with a dual camera setup at the back, and both the sensors are optically stabilised. The primary 12MP sensor comes with an aperture of f/1.8, while the other 12MP one is a telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. That said, the front-facing camera also comes with a Portrait mode with Apple’s new Portrait Lighting feature.

Apple also announced the much-rumoured iPhone 8 and 8 Plus at the same event. These two new models come as upgrades to last year’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and they bring much-needed upgrades to the table.

Starting off with the display, the iPhone 8 sports the same 4.7-inch Retina display and the iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5-inch Retina display. Coming to the build and design, the sport the same design language, but comes with aluminium frame and glass back. The Retina display this year comes with True Tone technology, which Apple used on its iPads that adapt to the colour environment. The display also features 3D Touch technology.

The Apple iPhone 8 features a single 12MP rear camera, whereas the 8 Plus comes with two 12MP sensors at the back. The cameras are upgraded as well and capture images with better dynamic range, and it also shoots slow motion videos at 240fps. The cameras also feature advanced Augmented Reality features.

The iPhone 8 Indian price is revealed as Rs. 64,000 for the 64GB option, and the availability of both the devices is September 29. Apple also showcased a charging mat called AirPower that charges iPhone, Watch and AirPods. The mat would be available from next year.

The company also introduced an upgraded Apple Watch, which can make phone calls and access the internet without the user carrying an iPhone. Apple is also adding more fitness features to the Watch, and says it is now the most used heartrate monitor in the world. Now, Apple Watch will notify users when it detects an elevated heart rate when they don’t appear to be active. It’ll also detect abnormal heart rhythms.

With the help of LTE connectivity, you can make and receive calls directly from the Apple Watch Series 3 itself. Furthermore, you can play music on Apple Music right from the Apple Watch Series 3 itself with the help of LTE connectivity.

Cook also introduced the new Apple TV 4K, designed to deliver a stunning cinematic experience at home. With support for both 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR), Apple TV 4K features sharp, crisp images. With Apple TV 4K, viewers can enjoy a growing selection of 4K HDR movies on iTunes.

Apple TV 4K starts Rs 15,900 for 32GB or Rs 17,900 for 64GB, joining Apple TV (4th generation) 32GB at Rs 12,900, available through select Apple Authorised Resellers.
