Toll-Free Helpline 14444 for Digital Payments Launched

In collaboration with telecom telecom and IT industry, the government has launched a toll-free helpline – 14444 – to address consumer queries on digital payments. This will help in addressing queries regarding newly launched BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money), e-Wallets, Aadhaar-enabled payment system, USSD and Debit Card payments.

“The helpline ‘14444’ is available in North as well as Eastern part of the country in English and Hindi and will soon be extended pan India, and in other languages,” Telecom Secretary J S Deepak told PTI.

The helpline has been launched jointly by Department of Telecom in collaboration with software association NASSCOM, telecom industry as well as the IT industry.

“Government had sought Nasscom’s help in providing support on a mass scale to people. We had requested a single nationwide helpline should be set up which now assigned by the DoT which is 14444. We are putting call centre support at the back-end. It is fairly advance stage of operation,” IT body NASSCOM President R Chandrashekar said.

“It is awareness with intention of conversion in actual transaction. It is to help people at the first level to zero in on the option most suitable for them that depends on person whether he has feature phone or not, Aadhaar number or not, bank account so many combination need to be seen,” Mr Chandrashekhar added.

Ministry of Electronics and IT on Friday launched free-to-air channel DigiShala to educate people on digital transactions which will be available on Doordarshan’s DTH platform and ‘CashlessIndia’ website to educate people about digital transactions.

As per IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, digital payments have increased in the range of 400 to 1,000 per cent since November 8 after scrapping of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

On December 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an indigenous digital payments app BHIM for fast and secure cashless transactions using mobiles. BHIM is a payment platform designed to make UPI and USSD payment modes simpler and usable across feature phones and smart phones.
